Fantastic tour of the new Tibet (with a touch of the old). It's clear that the US has been misrepresenting the entire situation there, what the Chinese agenda and activities are. What's new? The US believes it needs enemies. It makes up whatever lies are necessary to create them. The tragedy is that so many Americans believing the lies are deprived of the opportunity to enjoy other cultures, to appreciate a dramatically different (better) way of doing things. They continue to accept the inconveniences and frustrations of a dying empire as normal, believing that it just has to be that way. I've visited and lived in 35 countries since leaving the US in 2006. Believe me, there are a lot of amazing things going on in the world, millions of people with more fulfilling and enjoyable lives than what the typical American has learned to tolerate.

Thank you for sharing Lee, it looks so beautiful. I haven't believed the gov. since 1963! But do know that RED NOTE is changing everything, people are able to talk to each other and find out what China is really all about. Also how we Americans are getting screwed 😉

Lee Camp, sadly, passed away yesterday. He passed out from the lack of oxygen while running from a crazed yak in a Tibeten field, and fell face down into a pile of yakpoop. Rest in Peace, Handsome man.

Hey Lee, I'm just wondering what you make of such reports from “Amnesty International”? I'm genuinely interested as I've always held Amnesty in high regard, as a disinterested organization.

Here is a snippet of that report:

Amnesty International Report 9 October 2013

China: End “outrageous” police violence against Tibetan protesters

Chinese authorities must end excessive use of force against peaceful Tibetan protesters, Amnesty International said after police fired on and injured dozens of demonstrators.

Reports emerged today that Chinese police had opened fire on Tibetan protesters in the town of Diriu in the Tibet Autonomous Region on 6 October, injuring at least 60 people, some seriously. It is unclear if the police used live ammunition or tear gas.

“It is outrageous for the police to start firing on a peaceful gathering. This latest incident shows that the Chinese authorities have done nothing to rein in excessive use of force by their security forces or to increase respect for Tibetans’ right to freedom of peaceful assembly,” said Corinna-Barbara Francis, Amnesty International’s China Researcher.

There have even been reports that some of those seriously injured were denied medical care for several days, at least one of whom is still in very critical condition.

The protesters had gathered to demand the release of a local Tibetan who had been detained on 29 September after speaking out against authorities’ efforts to force local families and monasteries to fly the Chinese flag.

According to the International Campaign for Tibet 40 others were detained on the same day, some of whom remain in detention and the whereabouts of the others remains unknown.

That article's from 2013. Amnesty is sometimes good and sometimes merely a tool of Western hegemony. It took them 63 years to call Israel an apartheid state. It took them almost a year of genocide in Gaza to call it a genocide or ethnic cleansing. The US has the largest prison state in the world and Amnesty never mentions it. The US prison system is incredibly racist, locking up 1 out of 3 black men at some point in their lives - Amnesty never mentions it. ...I used to hold them up as gospel too.

I am no fan of the United States of Hypocrisy's inequality and corrupt actions in regard to "the great unwashed" but that is not what I am interested in here.

What I would like to establish is how the Chinese State (PRC) deals with those who may disagree with what they tout as the 'Party Line', and how they go about enforcing that 'perspective' should dissidents appear in their communities? One aspect of this is their 'digital ID' system where Chinese citizens can be punished, in a number of novel ways, for making their opposition views public. Such as not being able to obtain certain types of work, live in certain areas, even shop at certain outlets, etc?

So, what about this Al Jzeera's Report 19 Apr 2021

"China is committing crimes against humanity in its treatment of the Uighur ethnic minority and other Turkic Muslims in the northwest region of Xinjiang, with Beijing responsible for “policies of mass detention, torture, and cultural persecution, among other offenses”, Human Rights Watch has said in a new report."

I'm not asking for a comparison to the US here, I'm looking for any facts that you may be able to offer to reassure me of how the Chinese are treating their citizens should they disagree with what their government may deem as in the interest of the collective, rather than the individual?

"The 53-page report, titled Break Their Lineage, Break Their Roots documented a “range of abuses” that also include enforced disappearances, mass surveillance, separation of families, forced returns to China, forced labour, sexual violence and violations of reproductive rights."

Of course you don't want a comparison to the US because it makes you sound silly. But I brought it up because you specifically asked if Amnesty was reliable. I showed you that it is not. So now you're shifting gears into whether Al Jazeera is reliable. It depends on the topic. Al Jazeera is funded by Qatar - a US ally. Al Jazeera is good on Palestine but very bad on other things. The "uighur genocide" accusations are so hilariously false it takes about 30 seconds of research to debunk. You know they're laughable because when asked about the accusations, US officials moved the goal posts to say it was a "cultural genocide" because no Uighurs had been killed. Is there racism against Uighurs in China? Probably. I don't know. But there are also Uighurs everywhere in China as well as mosques. That certainly looks like a rather weird genocide. ...Please move on with the next goal post shifting.
